Walk Leader: Laura Hosaluk’s creative practice – spanning painting, found objects, furniture and sculpture – was formed during her childhood in the rich creative community that gathered around her father – the wood artist Michael Hosaluk. Her versatility to move between mediums enables her to express herself in a variety of ways.
Hosaluk had the opportunity to absorb how to be an artist – not only
from her father, but also the many students and colleagues who worked beside
him in his workshop, many of whom became her mentors and friends. The
foundation of her education began in 1994 when she attended her first
International Woodturning Conference in Saskatoon, SK. In 1996 Hosaluk
began attending the Emma Lake International Collaboration, an innovative
workshop model for un-structured creative collaboration between artists working
in traditional craft and those engaged in contemporary method.
